Comet Holmes

This photo was taken on October 28, 2007 from Burlington City, NJ, on the bank of the Delaware. I used my Canon Digital Rebel on a tripod (no telescope or tracking) with a Quantaray telephoto lens at full zoom and took a dozen 4-second shots (a couple were longer) and stacked them. Visible is an extended coma (if your screen is bright enough) and Delta Persei to the right, which appeared slightly dimmer than the comet viewed with the naked eye. The moon (inset) was also in the sky, but not nearly as close as depicted; I included it to show the relative size to the comet, since both photos were taken with the same focal length.
